Le Bistrot De Jan

Super restaurant. We spent a very enjoyable evening on the terrace. The food was uniformly excellent and beautifully plated (carrot, butternut carpaccio, boudin noir, guinea fowl, malva pudding). César provided very friendly, courteous and generously spirited service throughout. We shall definitely return, or possibly go next door to Jan, or both…

Incredible meal; it was lunch and I chose to not go with the price fix (I don’t care for clams and that was the first course) so I chose an appetizer and main off the menu. My appetizer/entree was grilled mushrooms and it was to die for - so fabulous that I actually took a piece of bread to soak up the gravy. The plats (main course) was guinea fowl and, again, the gravy was to die for, not to mention the aesthetic foam in each of the onion rounds. The piece de la resistance was the side of salad which was a long-thin slice of Romain lettuce w/cesar dressing between the leaves so with each bite there was a burst of flavor. I truly cannot communicate how much I love this restaurant and I look forward to coming back repeatedly during my stay in Nice.

We had a wonderful lunch at the Bistro yesterday. A simple yet exciting menu, there was a good selection of flavours to try. A very casual setting, yet gorgeous decor and high quality glassware, crockery, etc. I strongly recommend this place for a long and leisurely lunch. Excellent wine list. We enjoyed the shared chickens pie with potatoes and the “suggestion menu” starter and main. We chose dessert off the main menu. The absolute superstar of the day was the Malva pudding. I am South African and in each bite of that malva pudding I was transported back home. I could see, taste, smell, hear, my oumas kitchen, Sunday lunches at home, my family. It was perfection on every level! My only comment on improvement would be the service. There wasn’t anything wrong per se, but small things lacked, like being offered a second drink, or coffee after lunch. Otherwise lovely staff.

One of the culinary highlights from our 10-day trip to Provence. From the stunning space to the kind and warm service and above all the creative and expertly prepared food, we had an amazing evening. The sauces were a highlight for us all with the Lavage sauce on the clams being a really memorable and lip smacking experience. I've already tracked down where I can possibly purchase Lavage in Philadelphia and while I'm sure I won't be able to hit their mark, I'm going to do my best.

Everything at Jan is absolutely impeccable. Wonderful service, lovely atmosphere accompanied with the perfect selection of music. I really loved the decor, it felt like you are in an enchanted forest. As for the main event, the food is delicious, creative and fresh. I have been in Nice for a week, this is easily the top in dining for me. Highly recommend to anyone living or visiting Nice.

Everything about this restaurant was great, we went for dinner and really enjoyed our time. The food was great; we tried the famous carrot and chicken pie with truffle sauce which both were amazing. For the dessert we got the passion fruit crème brûlée which was also unique. I’d like to go back and try their other food next time I’m I’ll be in nice.

First time visitor here but certainly not last! I’ll start with the negatives (sooo outweighed by the positives but still need mentioning). At the beginning it seemed like they pushed the drinks before lunch which is not our thing. We were starving and wanted to see the food menu so it took a bit to get to the point. The music was also very loud at the beginning which is annoying when you’re trying to talk, but luckily it got turned down. Lastly, but not very important, the bread tasted a little old & gummy, just a pity because you can tell it’s a good bread that would be amazing when fresh (and when in France…) We loved the ambience, decoration, tableware, music style and the super friendly waiters. The food was nothing short of OUTSTANDING in terms of surprising flavors, quality/quantity. One dish was better than the other, presented beautifully and enticing to all senses. After 3 courses we were as stuffed and happy as could be. Will definitely come back. Bravo
